사랑은 언제나 시뮐라시옹

“Enjoy it” 사랑에 관한 가장 낭만적인 비유 중 하나인 영화 [이터널 선샤인](2004) 속 한 대사다. 자꾸만 되풀이되는 사랑의 아픔과 망각의 두려움 앞에서 여자가 두 사람이 처음 만난 이 순간이 기억에서 완전히 지워지면 어떡하느냐고 묻자 남자는 답한다. 그냥 이 순간을 음미하자고. 그래. 사랑은 빠진 단서와 의문 하나 없는 완벽한 사건이나 결과가 아니다. 그 자체로서 하나의 과정이다.

2019년 첫 EP [jamais vu]에 이어 꾸준히 싱글과 EP를 내놓으며 주목받고 있는 신예 프로듀서이자 DJ인 KONA는 이번 작업을 통해 모처럼 사랑에 대해 파고든다. 마침 Khakii(카키)와 구피(Goopy), 수민(SUMIN)이 함께한 두 곡은 마치 약속이라도 한 듯 문답 같은 형태로 완성되었다. ‘점, 선, 면(feat. Khakii)’을 통해 길 잃은 욕망의 먼지 구덩이를 헤집고(“I’m lost in dust of lust”), 시간에 잠겨 가야 할 길을 물으면서도(“시간이란 이름의 물속으로 (중략) 어디로 가야 할지 몰라”), 결국 ‘대화가 대답 (feat. 구피(Goopy), 수민(SUMIN))’을 통해 지금 여기에 함께 있는데 그게 뭐가 중요하냐고 답하는 식이다.

차분함과 호기심이 공존하는 Khakii의 랩, 연인의 열띤 대화 같은 구피와 수민의 R&B 보컬이 주인공들의 표정과 대사를 담당한다면, KONA의 음악은 감정이 부딪치고 피어나는 신비로운 사랑의 세계를 완성한다. 점멸하는 기묘한 음의 파형은 내일을 향하고, 두근대는 비트는 오늘을 곱씹는다. Rakim과 Outkast, Alicia Keys 키스 등 수많은 해외 아티스트와 작업한 무려 열두 차례의 그래미 노미네이트 엔지니어 Dave Kutch가 마스터링을 맡아 작업을 다듬기도 했다. 인상적인 것은 점, 선, 면으로 이루어진 3차원 현실 차원 저 너머에 존재할 것만 같은 KONA의 미래적인 음악과 지극히 인간적인 Khakii의 랩, 오토튠이 깊이 스며든 구피의 톤과 달콤한 수민의 목소리가 현실에 있을 법한 이야기로 흥미롭게 어우러진다는 사실이다.

[매트릭스] 시리즈가 세상에 전에 없던 신드롬을 일으키고, 각종 AR/VR, AI 기술과 가상 캐릭터가 일상에 침범하자 호사가들은 철학자 보드리야르의 개념 ‘시뮐라크르’(simulacres)와 ‘시뮐라시옹’(simulation, 시뮐라크르의 동사형)을 들어 이를 비평했다. 원본이 없으면서도, 실재보다 더 진짜 같은 가상을 일컫는 개념인 현대사회의 시뮐라크르는 분명 새로운 기술과 거대한 자본 중심사회가 선사한 많은 것들을 설명하기에 적합한 개념처럼 보인다.

그러나 어떤 것은 비단 새로운 기술이나 고도화된 과학, 시스템의 힘 없이도 여전히 원본 없는 가상에 머물러 있다. 이를테면 인류의 영원한 숙제로서 사랑의 이상(idea)이 그런 것 아닐까? 사랑의 이상이라는 원본도, 사실성도 없는 자신만의 실체를 끊임없이 만들어내는 세상 모든 저마다의 의심과 시뮐라시옹이 곧 사랑이다. 그것은 어쩌면 또 하나의 복제품일 수 있고, 현실과 다른 무엇일 수도 있다. 그러면 어쩌랴. “Enjoy it”

"Enjoy it”

It is a line from the movie "Eternal Sunshine" (2004), one of the most romantic metaphors of love. In the face of repeated pain of love and fear of forgetting, the woman asks what if this moment when they first met is completely erased from her memory, the man answers. Let’s just enjoy this moment. That’s right. Love is not a perfect event or result without missing clues and questions. It is a process itself.

Following the first episode of 2019 [jamais vu], as a producer and DJ, Kona, who has been receiving attention for releasing singles and eps, is digging into love through this album. The two songs, Khakii, Goofy and Sumin, were completed in a question-and answer format as if they had made a promise. Through the song “fragrance (feat. Khakii)”, it shows that (“I’m lost in dust of lust”), and looking for the right direction, and at last through the song “communication (feat. Goopy, SUMIN)”, it is like giving the answer that what is so important when we’re here together.
While Khakii's rap, where calmness and curiosity coexist, and Goofy and Sumin's R&B vocals are the main characters' facial expressions and lines like lovers' passionate conversations, KONA's music completes a mysterious world of love where emotions collide and bloom.

Flashing strange sound waves face tomorrow, and pounding beats reflect on today. Dave Kutch, a Grammy Nominate engineer who has worked with numerous foreign artists such as Rakim, Outkast and Alicia Keys, was in charge of mastering the work. What's impressive is KONA's futuristic music, which seems to be beyond the three dimensional reality dimension of dots, lines and faces, and Khakii's rap, which is extremely humane, and the auto-tune of Goofy's deeply permeated tone and sweet Sumin's voice as a story likely to exist in reality, combines so well.

When the [Matrix] series created a syndrome that had never existed before, and various AR/VR, AI technologies and virtual characters invaded everyday life, some people criticized by using the philosopher Bordriyar's concepts of "simulacres" and “simulation (verb form)”.

Simulacres in modern society, a concept that refers to a hypothesis that is more real than it really is, when there is no original, seems to be a good concept to explain many of the things that new technologies and huge capital-driven societies have provided.

Yet, something remains a virtual without the power of new technology, advanced science, or systems. For example, the humanity’s eternal homework that what the ideal of love is. All the doubts and simulation in the world that constantly create their own reality that is neither the original nor the reality of love is the love. It may be another replica, something different from reality. So what.”Enjoy it”
