LYRICS:
I got a feeling
I know it’s chasing me
And now, and now
I got a feeling
And now it’s chasing me
And now it’s chasing me
Thumbs out
Hold me up
It’s I don’t care ‘bout nothing
I just popped an up
Them stacks make veins pop
Up up up up up up up up up up up up up up
Up up up up up up up up up up up up up up
Sweeter the pie
Deeper the dive
I’m freaking out
In the dead of the night
Figure it out
‘Cause I’m gonna cry
Fucking me up
In the dead of the night
Sweeter the pie
Deeper the dive
I’m freaking out
In the dead of the night
Figure it out
‘Cause I’m gonna cry
Fucking me up
In the dead of the night
I know this feeling
There’s no escaping it
For sure, for sure
And now I’m reeling
And now I’m chasing it
Daylight falls
If I need, you find me
You find me
Daylight falls
If I need, you find me
You find me
Sweeter the pie
Deeper the dive
I’m freaking out
In the dead of the night
Figure it out
‘Cause I’m gonna cry
Fucking me up
In the dead of the night
Sweeter the pie
Deeper the dive
I’m freaking out
In the dead of the night
Figure it out
‘Cause I’m gonna cry
Fucking me up
In the dead of the night
And now I’m chasing it
(In the dead of the night)
And now I’m chasing it
(In the dead of the night)
About:
LA-based Sudanese-American artist Dua Saleh returns with "daylight falls"; the standalone single that follows three EPs since 2019 — heralded by The New York Times (“commanding”), NPR (“visionary”), and Pitchfork (“ambitious and riveting”) — and Saleh’s breakout role in the Netflix series Sex Education, now starting its fourth and final season. “daylight falls” finds Saleh taking cues from the high-stakes angst of pop-punk, manifesting light from the darkness above a raw and impressionistic mix of acoustic strums, symphonic swells, and booming percussion, produced with Tim Randolph. Lyrically the song emerges from Saleh’s experiences with mental health. “I was thinking about a point when I was at my lowest, and being a friend for kids who might be feeling the same, at the brink of it, especially with all that’s going on with trans and abortion legislation. Everyone’s going through it.”
Across a fluid catalog, Saleh — who identifies as non-binary — has deftly fused and inverted genre conventions, traversing R&B, soul, rock, hip-hop, electronic pop, and beyond with a socially-conscious style driven by melody, grit, and bravado. With their latest single, Saleh brings awareness to the efforts of the Darfur Women's Action Group and underscores a prevailing intention within their own artistry. A message for Sudanese folks, in short: “There’s hope, don’t give up. I’m there for you.”
