Hitting the opening tee shot of a major is an honour bestowed on few golfers. Hitting the opening tee shot at home is even more rare.

Born in Glasgow, just an hour from Royal Troon, local hero Colin Montgomerie acknowledged a rapturous crowd on the first morning in 2016 as he got the 145th Open Championnship underway.

Not every script is written how we might like. Monty made quite the start at first but recovered miraculously to stay in touch after the first round.
