The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-0 at Kauffman Stadium on Monday night. Endy Rodriguez opened up the scoring in the second inning. In the following inning, Ke’Bryan Hayes doubled which brought Ji Hwan Bae home to make it 2-0. The Pirates scored on back-to-back plays in the seventh on RBI singles from Andrew McCutchen and Joshua Palacios. Alfonso Rivas doubled home a run from Jack Suwinski to make it 5-0 in the eighth. Johan Oviedo threw a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits and striking out five in a career-high nine innings pitched. The Pirates put up a total of 12 hits from Hayes (4), Bae (2), Rivas (2), McCutchen, Palacios, Rodriguez, and Suwinski.
