Rickie Fowler 🇺🇸 | Royal Liverpool 2014 | Great Open Rounds
Rickie Fowler is an unmissable golfer. Firstly because of his stylish and unique way of play, striking the ball great distances with impressive and consistent accuracy. He is also unmissable thanks to flamboyant, colourful outfits.
On the fourth day of The 2014 Open, Fowler wore a trademark orange shirt in honour of Oklahoma State University, where he played golf in his early years.
On this day however, it was his golf that was catching the fans attention. The American started the final round at Royal Liverpool six shots adrift of tournament leader, Rory McIlroy, so he knew that he’d have to play well to apply pressure on the leader.
Despite a slow start and some missed birdie opportunities, Fowler did not drop any shots and holed five birdies to end the day with a round of 67. In the process he had clawed back four shots on McIlroy.
Despite this valiant effort, Fowler had to settle for tied second place, ending The 143rd Open two shots behind Rory McIlroy who went on to lift the Claret Jug.
This round helped Fowler finish the first three 2014 majors in the top five (5th at The Masters, 2nd at The U.S. Open and 2nd at The Open. He later finish 3rd in The PGA Championship).
