This song started off as a cover attempt of the Current Joys song “kids”. Whether it was because I was drunk or a mediocre musician, I couldn’t figure it out beyond the first chord; so I soon gave up and just played what my fingers felt like —singing what ever words just flowed through.

I tried re-recording the song multiple times but I could never beat that initial take. So here is “I’m a Kid”. The song contains the first vocal take as it is- recorded in a college dorm in the outskirts of oxford with an audio interface and sm7b microphone- flaws and all. A audial photograph of that random moment— of the drinks, the depression, and hopefully the sincerity.

이 곡은 그 당시 좋아하던 “Current Joys”라는 밴드의 “kids”라는 곡을 커버하려다 나왔습니다. 술 때문이었는지, 그저 그런 음악 실력 때문인지 첫 코드를 따다가 포기하고 그냥 손가락 가는 대로 아무거나 연주하기 시작했습니다. 그 순간 머리에 떠오르는 단어들을 부르면서.

이후 저는 여러 번 노래를 다시 녹음하려고 했으나, 그때 만든 첫 데모 테이크의 진정성을 다시 재현할 수가 없었습니다. 그래서 I’m a kid에는 영국변방 어느 기숙사 방에서 싸구려 오디오 인터페이스와 SM7b 한대로 녹음한 보컬과 기타가 그대로 담겨 있습니다. 술에 취하고, 우울했고, 진심으로 가득했던 그 순간 또한 그대로 담겨있기를.
