Malcolm Campbell's Sunbeam 350Hp "Blue Bird" 152mph Speed Record Beast - 18.3-Litre V12 Aero Engine!

Seeing live the iconic Sunbeam 350Hp "Blue Bird", with which Sir Malcolm Campbell achieved the land speed record of 150.76mph on 21 July 1925 at Pendine Sands (south Wales coast), was a great emotion. The national motoring museum in Beaulieu has gifted the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed's visitors. The car, lovingly kept by the museum, has undergone the necessary care over the years, including the reconstruction of the engine and, more recently, the replacement of the gearbox (the original one was no longer present) to allow the engine to deliver power without problems. The car is the latest evolution of the model, initially born in 1920. It is equipped with a large Manitou aircraft engine brought to a displacement of 18.3 litres. It is modified with a simple but reliable single-shaft distribution with three valves, one at the intake and two at the exhaust capade to develop 350Hp. Several pilots, such as René Thomas and Kenelm Lee Guinness, competed in speed records driving the car. Still, it was only when the owner and designer of the vehicle, Mr Louis Coatalen 1923, decided to sell it to Malcolm Campbell that the story of this car took another turn. After a few races in 1924, Campbell asked the Boulton & Paul company to create an aerodynamic bodywork, the one you still see today, with a long tail. Thus he obtained several speed records, but the most important one was recorded in 1925 at Pendine Sands, where Campbell scored an average of 150.76 mph, becoming the first car in history to exceed 150 mph. I have to thank my friends and YouTubers @19Bozzy92, @MattyB727 & @NM2255, with whom I collaborated to realise this video. Enjoy! 😉

Buona visione! 😉
