How Heyward's Leadership Influenced the Cubs Social Justice Efforts | 2020: Season at a Distance
The 2020 season was not only being played during a global pandemic, but also under the backdrop of racial injustice in our country. As nationwide protests crossed over into sports, Jason Heyward used his voice and his actions to lead the Cubs efforts in addressing racial injustice in Chicago and beyond. His commitment to racial equality included generous donations to support low-income communities and connecting local youth with community organizations, police and athletes. His efforts earned him a nomination for MLB's Roberto Clemente Award.
“I just want to continue to be a great influence. I want them to see that athletes do care and influence communities, influence the world and feel the reality of what we're making an impact on.” -Jason Heyward
