HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs Tottenham (6-1) | Miedema breaks goalscoring record!

Vivianne Miedema made history in the Women’s Super League on Sunday as we secured a memorable 6-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Netherlands international became the first player in the competition’s history to reach 50 goals - but she didn’t stop there, as she scored a hat-trick to take her tally up to 52.

The last time we faced our north London rivals, we struggle to find our flow and it took us 72 minutes to break the deadlock. But it was quite the opposite this time around.

With just three minutes on the clock, Katie McCabe opens the scoring in specular fashion, finding the top corner with an outrageous free-kick from the tightest of angles.

And shortly after Miedema scored the goal that we’ve all been waiting for, racing down the left to find the bottom corner and claim her title as the WSL’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Caitlin Foord then went on to make it three, converting Leah Williamson’s searching pass over Tottenham’s defence, before Miedema grabbed her second of the afternoon from a well-worked set-piece routine, firing home through a crowd of bodies.

Our No 11 wasn’t done there though, and just before the break she completed her hat-trick with a tap in, courtesy of an act of selflessness from Foord. The ‘GOAT’, as she’s so often called by Gooners, is now three goals ahead of Nikita Parris (49), the previous record holder.

Following the restart, the visitors looked set to pull one back when a controversial penalty was awarded against Katie McCabe, but Manuela Zinsberger was on hand to deny Rianna Dean with an outstanding diving save.

Foord then went on to score our sixth - and her second - of the afternoon, applying the finishing touch to Beth Mead’s delivery, before Lucia Leon scored a late consolation goal for the visitors.
