In 2022, Dustin Johnson made his 13th appearance at the Open Championship during the 150th Open hosted at St Andrews.

The two-time major champion had played at a St Andrews Open twice, in 2010 and 2015. On both occasions, he made the cut but failed to finish in the top 10.

2022 marked a breakthrough for the American, as he finished tied 6th at St Andrews, alongside fellow American, Brian Harman.
