Star French tenor Benjamin Bernheim – “a sumptuous voice, fiery sensitivity, and poetic musicality” (Le Monde) – explores the work of Italian opera composers in France. Familiar and lesser-known Donizetti and Verdi extracts, all in French, are paired with enthralling earlier music by Spontini and Cherubini, as well as two beloved Puccini arias and one from Mascagni’s overlooked Amica. Alongside Frédéric Chaslin and the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Bernheim shines a powerful light on the links between two great operatic nations.
