Albrecht Mayer & Vital Julian Frey – Bach: Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ, BWV 639 (Adp. Tarkmann)

This work by J.S. Bach was originally written for the organ. Albrecht Mayer here plays the melody on oboe d’amore, filling the slow-moving, ornamented phrases with warmth and serenity. Harpsichordist Vital Julian Frey, meanwhile, provides sublime harmonies in the steadily flowing accompaniment. The calm and prayerful atmosphere created by these long-term musical partners reflects the words of the hymn tune on which the work is based (“I call to you, Lord Jesus Christ”).

Bach devotes himself in his music and masters like none other the musical depth and harmonic balance. Labeled as the 'Father of Harmony' by Beethoven, Bach manages to radiate calmness, clarity and balance through his music.
